About Us

A Children's Habitat was founded in 1972 by a group of parents who had read the works of groundbreaking early childhood educator Maria Montessori and were determined to bring her unique Montessori Method to their children. Over the years, our program at A Children's Habitat has expanded from serving a handful of children to offering two morning preschool classes, a kindergarten program, and an extended day program.

What makes A Children's Habitat unique is our extraordinary teaching staff. You are welcome to schedule a visit of our school so you can see for yourself how gifted our teachers are at their work. Our excellent teachers work extremely hard to bring Maria Montessori's method to life in our classrooms. And unlike many schools that go by the label "Montessori", we make sure that each of our classrooms is led by a teacher who has been certified by the American Montessori Society.

Because A Children's Habitat is a parent-run school, parents have an unusually strong voice in shaping their children's education. Our Board of Directors is made up entirely of parents, and most parents participate in running the school school through committees or by volunteering in the classroom.
