Our Story

Founded in 1972, A Children’s Habitat Montessori School is the longest operating Montessori program in Indianapolis, striving to meet and exceed the highest Montessori standards set forth by the American Montessori Society (AMS). Our mission is to enrich minds and build community, guided by the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori. Rooted in the Montessori philosophy of respect for the development and potential of the whole child, our environment offers a student-centered curriculum and unparalleled experience, where teachers and families strive together in support of a passionate, nurturing, and just learning community.

A Children’s Habitat serves children from 18 months of age through 12 years in beautiful, developmentally responsive spaces, including a half-acre outdoor classroom. Students benefit from the warm, careful guidance of Montessori-certified lead teachers who actively pursue ongoing professional development. In addition, our elementary teachers hold state teaching licenses.
