Montessori Parents
Parents play an essential role in the development of children. As a Montessori parent, this is even more true. A Children’s Habitat strives to help families embrace a holistic Montessori mindset, focused on the development of the child as a whole person—both in school and out. From resources and articles, to educational family nights, guest speakers, and activities, as a school, we hope to support your entire family as you raise thoughtful, inspiring, and intellectual humans.
Our parent portal offers detailed, school-related information for current parents.

Trillium Montessori is home to the Montessori experiments and collections of AMS-certified Montessori Guide, Seemi Abdullah. Here, parents can find a wealth of resources from blogs and podcasts, to printables and online courses. While Trillium Montessori focuses on a homeschool ideal, we find this site to be a valuable resource for ongoing Montessori engagement for parents, through some of her ideas for home as well as her blogs, podcasts, and newsletters.
MONTESSORI IN THE HOME AROUND THE WORLD
Helping your child get dressed as early as age 2!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Lay pants and underwear on the ground, showing that the tag or writing goes in the back (sits on the ground). Encourage him to find the “head hole” of the shirt or dress and begin by moving that over their head, then follow with arms. Invite your child to look in the mirror and check for himself if everything feels comfortable. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You are guiding your child to develop a self awareness about how something feels and fits. If the shirt is on backwards, or shoes on the wrong feet, simply ask your child “does it feel comfortable?”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If it does, don’t correct!

Teacher Spotlight: Ms. Marie 🌟
Meet Ms. Marie, one of our amazing Montessori classroom teachers!
💛 Why she teaches at The Montessori House:
“I absolutely love the way the school is run and the director; we have such a caring and loving environment for our students.”
😊 What brings her joy in the classroom:
Seeing the smiles on her students’ faces when something clicks for them.
🎉 Fun fact:
She’s one of ten siblings!
🌊 What she enjoys outside the classroom:
Pilates, walking on the beach, and spending time with her grandkids.
We’re so lucky to have Ms. Marie as part of our Montessori family! 💛
Model mistakes for your child. Children see adults moving through life easily, completing simple tasks quickly. Demonstrate for your child a struggle, or multiple attempts at something that will encourage and foster perseverance and persistence. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I tried the zipper on my jacket but it didn’t work, I’m going to try it again!”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I didn’t like the way this drawing came out, but I’m going to turn the page over and try again.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I made a mistake and poured too much sugar into the bowl, how should we fix it?”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Whoops, I spilled the water on the ground, I’ll go get a towel to clean it up.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Your child’s brain is growing faster right now than it ever will again (ages 0-6). In the early years it builds over a million new connections every second. Every routine, tone of voice, and hands-on experience shapes how their brain develops. Montessori understood this long before science proved it. Children learn best through movement, real-life tasks, and simple independence. Each time they try something on their own, their brain releases dopamine that builds confidence and motivation.
Emotionally, their brain is still developing. The part responsible for planning, self-control, and calming down will not mature until their twenties. This is why big feelings happen. It’s not defiance. It’s biology. Children borrow our calm while their nervous system learns what safety feels like. When we offer steady guidance and a prepared environment, we support healthy brain wiring. You’re not just raising a child. You’re building the foundation for who they will become! 🧠🤍✨

Hear me out—gentle parenting is amazing for emotional safety, connection, and empathy but on its own, it can fall short. Without clear boundaries and opportunities for independence, children may feel supported yet remain dependent. It can also put a lot of pressure on parents to always stay perfectly calm, which isn’t realistic. Children need both emotional guidance and real-world practice to become confident, capable, and resilient. That’s why I combine gentle parenting with Montessori principles so they feel secure while guiding them towards knowing how to do things for themselves.
Gentle parenting extremes can be risky. If every demand is met, limits are avoided, and responsibility is never taught, children may grow up expecting the world to bend to them. That’s why boundaries, natural consequences, and opportunities for independence are essential. Combining gentle parenting with Montessori principles ensures children feel seen and supported while also learning responsibility, self-discipline, and empathy, helping them grow into confident, capable, and grounded humans.
